The PADI Divemaster programme with Abyss Scuba is a course culminating
in certification as a diving professional.
This rating denotes you as a person who:
Has a high level of personal diving skill.
Has instructor level knowledge of diving theory.
Has had significant training in how to assist an instructor during training
activities.
Is able to assume appropriate responsibilities that benefit the welfare
of other divers.
As a certified PADI Divemaster you'll be able to:
Act as certified instructional assistant to PADI Instructors.
Supervise participants in PADI experience programs for uncertified divers.
Generally supervise both training and non-training related diving activities
by planning, organizing and directing dives.
Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers.
Conduct the PADI Scuba Review programme for certified divers.
Enrol in PADI Instructor level training.
The training and experience you gain through the PADI Divemaster programme helps shape your abilities and attitude toward becoming a professional level diving educator. As such, many trained PADI Divemasters go on to become PADI Instructors.
There are three phases in the PADI Divemaster programme:
1. Watermanship and skills assessment
Watermanship and stamina
400 Metre Swim - without stopping, with no swimming
aids.
15 minute tread water
800 Metre snorkel - only masks fins snorkel, no overhand strokes - no
stopping
100 Metre tired diver tow - both divers in full equipment / push or tow
Rescue evaluation
An Instructor lead evaluation of your Diver rescue skills in
both confined and open water environments
General diving skills
Developing the 20 Open Water Diver skills to demonstration quality.
This we will complete over a number of skills circuits.
You will have to produce an Emergency Assistance Plan and map for a local
dive site.

3. Practical application
This involves training activities using various structured training sessions, simulated scenarios and internship sessions with actual Abyss PADI programmes. These training sessions enable you to gain practical experience as an instructional assistant and a supervisor of open water diving activities, both as a coordinator and as an underwater guide.
Upon successful completion of the PADI Divemaster programme, certification is by direct application to PADI.
Course Prerequisites
Minimum age: 18 years.
PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent).
To enrol on the course: a minimum of 20 logged open water dives.
To certify as a Divemaster: a minimum of 60 logged open water dives.
Certificate of first aid and CPR completed within previous 24 months.
Be in good physical condition for diving and have a diving medical completed
within the 12 months prior to your course.

PADI Assistant Instructor Course
The
PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first portion of the PADI Instructor
Development Course (IDC). You'll not only gain additional experience as
a PADI Professional but you'll also start learning the PADI System of
diver education. Completing thi scourse leaves you in pole position for
enrolment for the PADI IDC and IE
What can PADI Assistant Instructors do?
Teach academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI
Instructor
Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision
of a PADI Instructor
Teach the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course
Teach Project AWARE Specialty courses
Conduct PADI Discover Scuba experiences
Teach Emergency First Response after successful completion of an Emergency
First Response Instructor course
What will I need to start?
PADI Divemaster rating or qualifying certification from another certification
organization
At least 18 years old
Have 60 logged dives, including night, deep, and navigation dives
Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
What will I do?
Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations
Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations
How long will it take?
The course can vary from as little as three days to more than two weeks
